Parents and friends joined to watch Weddington play against Porter Ridge Pirates two hours after school ended, the wind was blasting and the bats were smashing.
Local Weddington Middle School math teacher Mr. Painter reported that he came to watch his daughter play as a pitcher. Mr. Painter explained, “We got a pitching duel going on right now. Third inning, no score, but I think Weddingtons about to explode. It’s making me a little nervous, but we’re gonna win.”
The announcer played songs such as “Work” by Rihanna during breaks, replacing what would be a boring wait with a fun time.
Both teams showed strong effort early on in the game. However, Weddington’s offense was strong throughout the game, scoring consistently and putting pressure on Porter High’s defense. A big inning early on helped set the tone and gave Weddington a comfortable advantage leading to their big win.
Despite the loss, Porter High continued to compete and looked to create opportunities, but Weddington maintained control through the final inning.
In the end, Weddington won once again! Weddington easily defeated Porter Ridge with a whopping score of eight runs on three hits, contrasting Porter Ridge’s score of zero runs on zero hits.
With the win, Weddington continued to build momentum this season, while Porter High will aim to bounce back in its next game.
