Hop into the Madness. March Madness has finally arrived, and don’t panic if you’re new to it all—there’s plenty to learn. But I assure you, once you’ve got the hang of it, you’re gonna be hooked. It’s pretty much the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, where 68 college teams battle each other in single-elimination fashion to find out who the national champion is.
Each game is just so intense, frantic, and really, a little bit nuts. And that’s what makes them so lovable. The tournament begins with 68 teams divided into four regions. The first four games cut it down to 64 and this is when the official round of 32 begans. The teams are seeded according to their performance in the regular season, but this doesn’t mean that a 1 seed is better than a 2 they could just have an easier schedule during the regular season. The ranks are determined, and then it’s do-or-die from there. Lose, and you’re eliminated. Every game is full of suspense—if you blink, you could miss something big.
The rounds are First Four, Round of 64, Round of 32, Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four, and then the Championship game. The final four is something differently spectacular, especially when there is a low seed in it.
Another one of the best things about March Madness is the bracket. Every single game is eventually connected and you’re picking the winners for each round; everybody gets super competitive about it. There were over 25 million brackets made online this year. There are always people who claim their bracket is the best and then they are ranked 20 million in the country.
The unpredictable is the upsets—teams of lower seeding beating teams of higher seeding—and those are what keep the tournament exciting. This March for example, number 12 Mcneese State upset number 5 Clemson, proving how unpredictable it is.
March is one of the exhilarating months of the year if you participate in March Madness; and why not participate? You never know what it has in store for you. It’s simply enjoyable to compete with friends by comparing who has the better brackets, and spending time watching games with friends and family is always fun. Who knows, you could find yourself getting a lot more into it than you thought. So pop some popcorn, fill out your bracket, and sit back and enjoy the madness. It’s not basketball; it’s about surprises, bragging rights, and a whole lot of fun.
