Spring sports are off to a great start! With winning teams such as our female varsity lacrosse team, female varsity soccer, varsity softball, and varsity baseball, playoffs are in the future for many of our athletes! Known for our strong athletic department and high-quality athletes, Weddington is ranked third in North Carolina for our athletics, and this title does not come lightly. With multiple state championship titles in sports such as football, lacrosse, soccer, and basketball, our school is known state-wide for our programs.
Students, teachers, and parents alike all take pride in the athletic department that our school has to offer. There are many examples of students-turned professional athletes that our school has to offer, including Super Bowl LIX champion Will Shipley, NFL safety Malik Mustapha, and WNBA player Stephanie Watts. Numerous top recruits come from Weddington beginnings, and there are many more to come. Many students sign for athletic scholarships each year, for every sport imaginable.
In women’s lacrosse, there are 7 girls committed to play in college, 6 of them being Division 1, including Ella Turner (Iona University), Ava Jordan (Gardner-Webb), and Abbey Testa (Wofford). For baseball, there are numerous recruits as well, including Kayden McGlauflin (Clemson), Max Luzarraga (Dallas Baptist), and Nick Russo (Gardner-Webb).
Example after example can be shown of the strength and power that each athlete demonstrates, as the dedication, strength, and athleticism in each and every athlete is evident in every game played. Each game, match, or meet ends with power and precision, as no loss comes without a fight.
