An unseen community is the one that exists between the pages of a book. The people resemble poems, and within their minds there are essays of how they are who they are. They are fiction narratives that are never fully fiction; they are the things we find beautiful in the words on a page.
The people who exist in this kind of hidden cove of creativity are the ones I would like to highlight: the creative writers at Weddington. The craftful students who exhibit wisdom with carefully chosen words. They are the ones who this section of the Weddington Witness intends to showcase.
These students are a constantly growing group, from Mr. Lukey’s Creative Writing class, full to the brim each year, to the poets that have found their home in the creative writing club “Coffee and Quills” to those brave students who conquer a stage each year at the English Honors Society’s Poetry Slam. You could even say, the Weddington Witness Staff is made of creatives.
Not to negate my point but every student is a creative writer in a way, with argument essays and assignments driving their writing, but a select few found inspiration to use words differently than instructed at school.
For a short time the Weddington Witness Staff is opening up creative submissions for our new Creatives section on the Weddington Witness Website. Not all submissions will become part of our creatives section.
Every submission will be examined using the following criteria:
-Appropriate content for a school related public site.
-Functional use of language.
-Appropriate length for the site.
(Keep in mind this may change based on work but aim for submissions to have a 1-2 page length area on the site. If the length is longer we can always link to a full PDF.)
Remember no matter the personal feeling or opinion expressed, appropriateness for a school sanctioned program is the only content qualifier, not our opinions about what you say.
Please fill out this form if you are willing to put your work out into the world and if you would like to become a part of the Creatives community. Please let us know if the creatives section is where your work can truly live.
Remember that after our submission period ends publication of creatives will not stop. Join the Weddington Witness staff to have works published continually.
