Not everyone has the ability to achieve all A’s in AP’s. Right? That’s the belief of many students across Weddington High School— however, is it true? I asked three students about taking multiple AP courses, advice they’d give other students, and how they’ve managed to do it all while still passing with A’s. Through this article, you will gain insight on the insider tricks, tips, and strategies to accomplish your dream-grades. These collections of interviews are: Tales from the Honor Roll.
QUESTION: What do you do to prepare for tests/quizzes?
- ANNA JOY: “I use this website called Knowt. It’s honestly so much better than Quizlet because Quizlet made all their stuff premium and Knowt has all the Quizlet premium features but 10 times better! You can also just import old quizlets into Knowt.”
- JADYN HOWELL: “AP Classroom, Khan Academy, and maybe some websites I find on occasion. Quizlet doesn’t really help at all.”
- ANJALI SAMUEL: “I always star any questions on classwork that I’ve had trouble with, and that way I can go back and practice them again. Then, I review all my notes and assignments from the unit and watch review videos online.
QUESTION: How many hours of homework do you average a night?
- ANNA JOY: “On average I have, like, two to three hours a night; but it can be worse.”
- JADYN HOWELL: “I would say, like, three hours at night and then one in the morning.
- ANJALI SAMUEL: “About 2 hours, sometimes less.”
QUESTION: What’s the hardest class you’ve taken at Weddington?
- ANNA JOY: “This class is my hardest but also my favorite… It’s AP Lit.”
- JADYN HOWELL: “Well I get the most work in AP Human Geo, but I study the most for AP Bio.”
- ANJALI SAMUEL: “AP Pre-Calc, just because it’s my first AP class.”
QUESTION: What tactic do you use to get your work done?
- ANNA JOY: “I like going to restaurants and coffee shops like Dunkin and working with my friends. We both inspire each other and try to motivate each other to finish our work.”
- JADYN HOWELL: “Literally just by studying and practicing the type of questions that will be on the test.”
- ANJALI SAMUEL: “Try to do your work in intervals. Take small breaks in between assignments.”
QUESTION: Do you think anyone could/should take AP courses?
- ANNA JOY: “AP’s definitely aren’t for everyone. They are a lot of work, so only do them if you’re willing to put in the work. Colleges will still like you without AP’s, so do your extracurriculars!”
- JADYN HOWELL: “I don’t think everyone should, but I think that they’re really good preparation for college. There’s also different levels of AP classes, so you don’t have to take the hardest ones. Just find what works for you.”
- ANJALI SAMUEL: “I think people should take AP classes that they’re actually interested in.”
