Guiding Bright Futures: National School Counseling
The school counselors of Weddington High School are invaluable members of our education team, supporting us with academic changes, college transcripts, and most importantly, guidance. The first full week of February is observed to be National School Counseling week. February 5-9th focuses on the appreciation for all school counselors in the US. Throughout sessions, workshops and interventions, school counselors help students achieve their full potential, responsible for making informed decisions that will shape their future. Their support extends to all students, aiding them in achieving academic success, exploring career options, and fostering social and emotional growth. With their guidance and assistance, today’s students are equipped to become thriving and well-rounded adults.
So the next time you see your counselor, take the time to thank them or show appreciation through letters, gifts, assistance etc. Letting people know their efforts are appreciated, can go a long way. Ashley Tartaglia, a senior, thanks her counselor for “ Helping me with guidance and advising what classes will be best for my career path.” The new Weddington Counselor, Laura Lewin has shared her interest as well, “I have a passion for talking with, assisting, and supporting young adults, and I have always wanted to work with children. After working in public school systems, I was ready to go back into school counseling.”
National School Counseling week serves as a reminder of the pivotal role they play. Let us continue to recognize and appreciate their dedication- remember to say thank you!
