This past week, one of the most exciting moments of all of 2023 occurred: the release of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. 

In 2015, a seemingly disabled young adult hired her boyfriend to murder her mother. This case was shocking for all, considering how close the mother and daughter duo seemed. However, this was not the case at all.

From a young age, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was told that something was wrong with her. Her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, was her sole guardian, and was very distraught over her daughter’s physical state. Gypsy was told she suffered from everything from seizures to muscular dystrophy to leukemia, and many more. The duo lived this life for around 20 years, gaining support of their local community. They were even built a house by the Habitat for Humanity, and were provided with a trip to Disney World from Make-a-Wish. However, in 2015, the real truth came out, and the truth was shocking. Unknown to anyone, everything was a lie. Gypsy Rose was a totally normal girl, and had no serious health issues. Her mother, Dee Dee, had been faking the whole thing. 

Dee Dee went to many lengths to fool people into believing Gypsy was actually sick. She confined her daughter into a wheelchair, would shave her head regularly, and had ultimate control over Gypsy at all times. Many believe that abuse played a big role in this duo’s dynamic, and it was eventually confirmed by Gypsy.

However, eventually Gypsy started to realize that there was nothing wrong with her. Behind closed doors, Gypsy was able to walk around and be a normal kid, but when in public, she had to go back to faking this lifestyle that was created for her. Her life consisted of pretending to be sick, and putting on an act for the public eye. Her only real friends were online, and eventually Gypsy decided she couldn’t live like this anymore. Gypsy Rose joined a christian dating site, and that is where she met Nick Godejohn. Nick Godejohn was a very twisted man, and when he saw Gypsy, he knew that she was the one for him. After weeks of talking, the two began dating. And that is when they created a plan to get rid of Dee Dee once and for all.

Nick Godejon killed Dee Dee Blanchard on June 9th, 2015. After the murder, Gypsy and him ran away, but were quickly picked up by the police and sent to court. The case was a hard-hitting one, as many were able to see the abuse and pain that Gypsy was put through. So many things were unwrapped in the court case, and the jury was extremely hung. However, after a plea deal, Gypsy Rose was able to get 10 years in prison. 

Now, 8 years later, Gypsy Rose has been let out of prison. 

Many have been very excited about the release of Gypsy. Within the first week out, Gypsy was able to gain an Instagram following of 6M, and the number is continuing to grow. People have been sending her presents, tickets, and clothing in order to adjust her back to society. Many have been posting about how happy she is that she was released, and how exciting it is that she has a second chance. Many believe that Gypsy did what was necessary for her survival, and do not count the murder of her mother as something evil. 

Now, as she has been released, many are ready to see what she will do. We do not know what will happen, but one thing we do know is that Gypsy is likely to remain in the public eye for the years to come.
