The Weddington Witness, Kaleb Dufrene, or any member of the Witness staff is not criticizing the New York Times, it’s affiliates, or the unknown White House tipster. This article is for the purpose of informational and journalistic knowledge only.

“I am part of the resistance inside the Trump Administration.” This phrase grazed the pages of the New York Times on September 5, 2018. A White House senior official, whose name is left undisclosed by the New York Times, published an op-ed (a guest opinion piece) on September 5th, disclosing information about the White House under the Trump Administration. The unknown writer criticized the inner working of the daily White House, further alleging several violations.

The New York Times released a statement attached to the article, making clear that the identity of the tipster would remain unknown, but is known by the Times itself, assuring that the tipster is a White House senior official of important status. The tipster also made known to his or her readers that there is a so-called “quiet resistance” in the White House.

According to the Washington Post, who also released information about the unknown writer, White House officials of all levels have been assuring the president that they did not create the article. According to the Post, President Trump was angered by the piece, calling it “anonymous – meaning gutless.”

Many White House officials have released statements, saying that they are not responsible for the editorial. There have been several suspicions among the public concerning who may have written the article. One thing is for certain: no one has and likely no one will step forward to claim the piece as their own.

The article has drawn much attention from the public and coverage by local and national news stations. Nancy Pelosi, a Democratic Congresswoman from California and House Minority leader, commented on the matter: “It probably won’t take long for us to find out who wrote it.”

With accusations from the public also come accusations from within the White House. President Trump himself opened a Justice Department investigation in the White House to try and find the columnist. “Jeff [Sessions] should be investigating who the author of that piece was, because I really believe it’s [someone from] national security,” President Trump commented while on board Air Force One.

The accusations are not stopping. According to NBC News, “more than two dozen” White House Senior officials told Trump and/or the American public that they were not part of the article. With many more senior officials yet to speak in the tense and anxiety filled atmosphere of the west wing, only time will tell if House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s time estimate is correct.
