Weddington varsity Takes Down Sun Valley varsity football team with a final score 21-6 to move to 6-1 on the season. Weddington defense continued its dominant performance and did not allow Sun Valley to move the ball down the field. Weddington’s offense had sparks and explosiveness. Even though they had some turnovers, they found a way to bounce back every time and make plays to win the game. Aiden Harris and Andrew Harris both had dominant games and put a significant amount of pressure on the Sun Valley quarterback Noah Lineberry as Sun Valley struggled with blocking.
Through the first quarter, Weddington got on the board with a 95-yard touchdown thrown by Walker Powell and caught by Johnathan Manley, who made a great play when they were backed up in their own territory. The Sun Valley quarterback struggled in the first quarter, going 1/7 for 25 yards. The Sun Valley rushing offense wasn’t working out either, going 3 carries for 6 yards through the first quarter.
Heading into halftime, Weddington took a 14-0 lead against Sun Valley and continued to dominate on defense, not allowing Sun Valley to score and looking for a shutout. Sun Valley’s offense kept trying to move the ball down the field in the air, and Weddington’s defensive backs played great against the pass.
At the end of the 3rd quarter, Weddington went up 21-0 and continued to control the game. Sun Valley still couldn’t drive down the field, and the offensive line couldn’t hold up against Weddington’s defensive line, which is one of the best in the nation.
To end the game, Sun Valley finally got onto the board, scoring 6. They went for 2 and failed. Weddington went on to finish the game 21-6 and put up another great game. Weddington walks out with only 1 loss on record for the season, as Sun Valley walks out with their 3rd loss of the season.
