Ms. Harris is a guidance counselor at Weddington High School who has passion about helping students meet their goal. She is a professional who works with students, parents, and teachers. Most of her day is spent with students who need a quick chat to support teachers with student concerns, and meeting with parents and others to ensure our student population is doing well overall. She’s a resource for everyone, but her primary focus is always on the students. This is what Ms. Harris said about her role at the school “My role is to support the entire school community”. She has a passion to make this community a better place.
She helps students succeed in three main areas: academic, career, and social/emotional development. This can mean a lot of different things. For some students, she might help them navigate daily issues that are interfering with their health or learning, or maybe she could help them create a high school plan to meet their graduation requirements. “For others, I might help them navigate a difficult friendship or manage stress,” Ms. Harris commented. She helps with more than just school life; she is someone you can go to for personal issues when in doubt.

Her office is a safe, confidential space where students can come to talk. However, her work isn’t limited to just her office. This is what Ms. Harris said about her location in the school: “You will find me wherever a student or staff member is needing me to be to help support them.” she will be wherever you need her to be to support you with anything you need help with.
She believes that every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and prepared for their future. Ms. Harris does her job to make sure everybody is given a chance to succeed and she does everything she can to make sure our students are safe and feel comfortable with being in the school.
This is Ms. Harris on what she is trying to accomplish: “My goal is to remove barriers to learning and help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in school and beyond.” She is here to help you get to where you need to be to make a successful career of your choice.
Her job involves a lot of listening and collaboration with others. She is an easy person to talk to. She is outgoing in conversation and makes everybody in the school feel comfortable to talk to her about anything they need help with. This is her statement on how she does it: “I work really hard to create a space that allows students to feel comfortable enough to share with me what they may need support with.” She goes all out to make sure she can make a positive impact on the students and staff at Weddington High School.
