If you’ve ever walked past Room F203 and wondered what DECA is all about, here is your answer.
DECA, which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, is more than just a club; it’s a launchpad for students who want to explore the world of business, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, and hospitality.
At Weddington High School, DECA is thriving. With nearly 300 students involved, it stands as one of the largest and most dynamic organizations on campus. Led by Mrs. Kemp, our DECA advisor, the chapter has seen remarkable success this year, both in membership and competition.
From role-playing real-world business scenarios to pitching innovative solutions, DECA competitions challenge students to think critically and act professionally.
This year, 39 Weddington students were recognized as Top 10 Finalists in their events at the state level. Even more impressively, 25 students qualified for ICDC (International Career Development Conference), DECA’s prestigious global competition.
And the results? Outstanding. At ICDC, Weddington DECA brought home 18 medals and celebrated 3 Top 10 finishes on the international stage, a true testament to the hard work, talent, and determination of our members.
“I joined DECA not knowing what to expect,” said a current member, “but after competing at regionals and advancing further, I discovered how much it boosted my confidence and taught me to think quickly and creatively under pressure.”
But DECA isn’t just about trophies. It’s about teamwork, leadership, and making a positive impact. Weddington DECA is involved in community service projects, ethical business challenges, and partnerships that show how business can be a force for good.
Thinking of joining? You don’t have to be a business expert to get started, just someone who’s curious, driven, and ready to challenge themselves. With the guidance of Ms. Kemp and the support of your peers, DECA can open doors to connections that last a lifetime.
Stay tuned for details about our upcoming virtual DECA Summer sessions in the next issue of the Weddington Newsletter. It’s a great opportunity for new and returning members to build skills, meet new people, and prepare for an exciting year ahead!
