2025 has some really cool movies in store, with a little something for all kinds of movie lovers. From action and thrillers to something lighthearted and fun to watch with your friends, these are some of this year’s top choices.
First, Disney’s Snow White (2025) received a great deal of publicity. It’s always wonderful to see something old remade into something new, but the word has not been so great. There are fans who adore that Disney tried to modernize the story, and Rachel Zegler as Snow White was fantastic, but others are just not on board with the new additions. A lot of fans weren’t a fan of how Disney modernized things, especially the casting and newer ideas. It’s worth the watch for the curious, but it’s not a success with everyone.
There is also The Electric State, directed by the Russo brothers (yes, the Avengers crew). It’s a wild ride. Set in an alternate 1990s in which robots are everywhere, Millie Bobby Brown plays a teenage girl trying to survive in this crazy world. The animation is quite cool, and the storyline has a lot going for it, but some weren’t as interested as the creators might have hoped. If you love futuristic sci-fi awesomeness and are nuts for visuals, it’ll be fun, but possibly not the best if you’re looking for something that totally hooks you from start to finish.
Black Bag is where it’s at if you dig violence and surprise plot twists. It’s a tale of an investigative reporter who uncovers a ginormous government scandal while snooping into some unexplained deaths. Suspenseful in every way, it keeps you in the dark and is bound to be one of those films that people will be talking about for days. It’s also been receiving positive reviews, so it definitely could be worth the watch.
Lastly, if you’re looking for something fun and lighthearted, The Alto Knights is an animated film that you will enjoy. It’s about a group of high schoolers who form a secret society to protect their town from supernatural creatures. It’s funny, adventurous, and has that “we’ve got each other’s backs” vibe that while sometimes cringy is relatable. The animation in this movie is awesome too. Watching it with friends would be fun and an enjoyable pastime.
Reboots, thrillers, and animated adventures—there is something for everyone this year. These movies have a lot to offer, and no matter your interests, there’s something worth seeing. Popcorn in hand, enjoy!
