Here, in Charlotte, North Carolina, there is a high school called Weddington. Not only is Weddington known for football, they are also known for their amazing theater/drama program.
This year, the program put on an amazing play called, “The Play That Goes Wrong.” This play starred Callum Bridgers, Hayden Kocur, Sophie Kewak, Bailey Bouldin, and more amazing performers. This show was very successful and had great ratings. This spring, the theater program is putting together the Musical “Chicago.” Chicago is set in the 1920s, a time of jazz, glamour, and corruption. The story is about two women, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, who are both accused of murder. They are in the same cell block, where they are under the watch of the Matron “Mama” Morton. With the help of lawyer Billy Flynn, who specializes in turning criminals into media celebrities, they fight for fame and their freedom. Through a series of musical numbers, the show satirizes the justice system, the media’s obsession with scandal, and the celebrity status of criminals, all while showing the darker side of the American Dream. The plot is filled with betrayal, and humor, in an energetic musical that includes hit songs like “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango.”
This play will take place in Weddington High school April 2-5 @7pm. You can find the link to buy tickets on the WHS Drama Club instagram page or the WHS instagram page. I better get to see you all there!
