Purple Hearts is a movie that without a doubt blew me away with the detail that went into the sheer plot and backstory of the two main characters.
The chemistry between the two actors was truly incredible and really brought the story together. Getting invested and siding with one of the characters, either Cassie or Luke, and then going back and forth throughout the movie was thrilling. It is a roller coaster of emotions and includes sad moments, funny moments, and happy ones. If you are into rom-coms, I would definitely recommend this movie for you.
The movie begins with Cassie Salazar who is a struggling songwriter who sings at a bar and catches the eye of a marine named Luke Morrow. As fate would have it, Luke is to be deployed the next day. Cassie, meanwhile, is diagnosed with diabetes, and she is trying to figure out how she is going to pay for the medication she needs.
Luke finds out about her situation and convinces her to marry him for the military benefits. Weighing out the options, Cassie decides to get married. After they get married Luke goes into combat. Cassie and Luke frequently call to talk about Cassie’s new songs and life while Luke is getting through being at war. The Author put it as “the lines between real and pretend begin to blur as they start to fall in love.”
I’d rank it at around a 8/10, a more modern approach to a love story and had me following it all the way through, never got bored nor confused. I understood the message behind the movie and now it’s a monthly rerun for me.
This movie portrays a unique and heartfelt love story that is easy to follow. It is set apart from other Rom-coms because of how different it is from other love stories with similar rerun plots that get boring. There’s a ton more that happens but if you want to know the rest this is definitely a movie to check out for yourself.
