It was the 2024 World Series game five, top of the fifth inning, Dodgers losing 5-0 after the Yankees scored back-to-back homeruns in the first inning and made an incredible show of athleticism, but the Dodgers did not back down.
The Yankees’ outfielders and basemen were getting tired. The bases were filled as Gerrit Cole threw out some surprisingly hittable pitches. Capitalizing on three errors by Yankees players, one by Aaron Judge in the outfield who missed a routine catch and one by Anthoney Volpe on third base, trying to dodge Kike Hernandez, the Dodgers had created a way to wedge themselves into the fray. With a third error by Gerrit Cole not covering first base properly, the Yankees let the inning slip away. The Dodgers tied it 5-5.
The rest of the game the Yankees tried hard to get ahead again but in the eighth inning the Dodgers secured their win, 6-7. With a no run inning in the ninth, as the Dodger pitcher, Walker Beuhler, finishes the season out, the team rushes the field. The Dodgers comeback World Series win is just one of many crazy moments of this year’s series.
From Freddie Freeman, the year’s most valuable player, securing a record breaking world series home run streak, to a fan trying to pry a ball out of Mookie Betts glove in game four, to the three devastating Yankee errors in the Dodgers comeback game, this series has been one of the greatest and weirdest, holding some of the best games fans have ever seen.
Let’s talk about Freddie Freeman:
The man, the myth, the legend who persevered through a sprained ankle and bone bruise, taped over his shoe, and still stole a base when it was not advised for him to even walk. Freddie Freeman was the rightly deserved MVP of this World Series.
He was bound for the hall of fame before this postseason and has just created one more chapter in a book of incredible moments. His dream-like grand slam in game one, and setting a new record for a World Series home run streak, this is a man who is committed to his game and arguably the most impressive player this postseason.
Some would say that award would go to Ohtani or Judge but with Judge being in a major slump and Ohtani not living up to his salary Freddie would take that award any day in my opinion.
The Deserving Winner:
The Los Angeles Dodgers are now officially the best baseball team in the world, and with players like Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshi Yamamoto, Kike Hernandez, this team is the definition of a committed talented and funloving baseball team. With their traditions when they get on base and the way they communicate on the field, they have a bright future. Their spirit in the dugout and the way they go out of their way to include their teammates even when they don’t know the language fully, this team is deserving of this series win.
