On October 29, 2024, the Olivia Rodrigo “GUTS World Tour” concert movie came out on Netflix. It’s based on her 2023 album “GUTS,” which I wrote an album review on last year, and the concert filmed for the movie was one of her concerts in Los Angeles from earlier this year. The editing of the movie was decent, considering it was a Netflix movie, but the camera kept changing shots every two seconds, and it made me feel dizzy. However, the editing wasn’t as good as it was in the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert movie, which was released in theaters last year.
The concert movie opened with Olivia’s song “Bad Idea Right?”, which is one of the more popular songs from “GUTS.” Olivia closed the concert with “Good 4 U” and “Get Him Back!” Also, in the middle of the concert, Olivia brought out fellow pop star Chappell Roan, and they performed her hit song “Hot To Go.” As well as performing songs from “GUTS,” Olivia also performed songs from her first album “SOUR,” which was released in 2021, including “Driver’s License,” which is the song that made her an overnight success.
One thing that I didn’t like about the movie, however, is that Olivia acted very sexually. For example, when she performed her song “Making The Bed,” Olivia was laying on the floor with one leg fully on the floor while the other one was bent with her knee sticking up, laying on her side with her eyes closed. The outfits she was wearing were very skimpy and didn’t leave much to the imagination, except I wasn’t surprised, because that’s how most female pop stars dress on stage. It’s problematic, in my opinion, but I’m not going to get into that. However, the main problem for me is that when she’d talk to the audience, her voice sounded very airy and raspy in a sexual way.
Whenever this would happen, which was a lot, I couldn’t tell if she was faking the sexuality and doing it because she was told to or if she was just horny and sex- craved. I’m leaning more towards that first thought, though, because that’s what my gut, no pun intended, was telling me as I was watching the concert movie. Besides that one thing, I did enjoy the concert movie and I really liked the music, because it was moody and painful. I rate the movie a 7/10.
