“Short’ N’ Sweet” is Sabrina Carpenter’s sixth studio album, released on August 23, 2024, by Island Records. It’s a pop album, with a mix of rock, disco, and R & B influences. It’s 36 minutes and 15 seconds in length and was produced by Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Ian Kirkpatrick, and Jack Antonoff, who’s worked with Taylor Swift many times in the past. There are 12 songs in total on the album, including “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
The album, in my opinion, was very fun, surface level, poppy, gave summer vibes, and it had cheeky, funny, and sexual lyrics. A few of the songs are about her past fling with Shawn Mendes, and his on- again- off- again relationship with his ex- girlfriend and fellow singer, Camila Cabello, including “Taste,” “Dumb & Poetic,” “Sharpest Tool,” and “Coincidence.” The song “Please Please Please” is about her relationship with her current boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, and he even starred in the music video for the song! Then in the music video for “Taste,” “Wednesday” lead actress Jenna Ortega stars as Carpenter’s ex’s girlfriend, and they both share a kiss!
All in all, I really enjoyed the album, most likely because I’m a part of the main audience, teen girls and young adult women. My rating for it is an 8/10. My six favorite songs were “Taste,” “Espresso,” “Coincidence,” “Bed Chem,” “Juno,” and “Dumb & Poetic.” The chorus from “Espresso,” especially, is stuck in my head, ever since it’s been released. I’m very excited to see where Carpenter’s music career heads in the future.
