On March 6th of 2024, a tragedy took place in Baltimore, Maryland. The Baltimore Key Bridge collapsed due to a cargo ship crashing into it, closing down the bridge and leaving 6 people dead. The bridge crash could have been more fatal, but the Coast Guard was notified by the ship’s crew of their imminent crash, stopping cars from crossing the bridge, but unfortunately they could not get the construction workers off in time.

8 people were on the bridge when it fell, but two were found and rescued, while the others died instantly, or were missing until later found. Four were dead and two were found on April 15th, dead. There are some investigations going on, and also inspecting if the bridge had any building quality issues. It was the ninth biggest U.S. port for international cargo as well. As CNN news says “it’s heartbreaking” to see the construction workers pass away. Rebuilding the bridge is going to be a huge obstacle because of the high costs and amount of time it would take. Certain environmental dangers resulted too, such as multiple tons of steel falling in the water. The hazardous materials inside the crates of cargo on the ship are even more dangerous and have many experts worried about what is going to happen. They did however make an effort to stop the oil from spreading too much and it has worked so far.

On the first day there were some other theories as to why the ship crashed instead of the movement not being able to be controlled. People say the crew could have been asleep. Some crazy theories say that it was planned. But eventually it had been found out the ship couldn’t stop, and which is why they informed the coast guard as early as possible, saving thousands of lives. The Baltimore Bridge collapse is truly an unfortunate event for the US government and for the people that lost their lives but also was dealt with properly saving many lives.
