For Weddington, it was a great season as they made it all the way to the 3rd round of the playoffs but were defeated by Chambers ending the season with a 27-2 record. They were 8-0 in the conference, and they were first in 4A Southern Carolina.
Star player KJ Younger had a great season leading the team in points, rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage. He averaged 22.9 points per, 6.8 rebounds per game, and .9 blocks accumulating a field goal percentage of 59 percent. He also broke a record having the most points in one season at 668.
This is what KJ had to say about this year’s Weddington season, “It was better than I thought and we were able to connect on a level and get more wins than I thought.”
KJ averaged 22.9 points per game, so all have to know how he was able to score so easily and is able to help his team get so far in the playoffs?
KJ says, “It was my team finding me when I was open and I was able to connect on so many shots. I also worked on many different ways to create my own shot in the offseason. Plus, my goal was to score 40 points a game.”
Unfortunately, they lost to Chambers in the third round of the playoffs. KJ scored 23 points that game but was unable to keep his team up and win the game. Tarris Bouie had 40 points for Chambers in that game, carrying his team to victory.
“It really got out of control. I feel that the game could’ve gone a lot easier if we understood the defense. At half-time KJ thought,, “How am I going to win this game for my team? I was trying to do anything to win the game.”
