Coming into the 2023-2024 football season, the Weddington Football team expected to have a great season, and they finished the regular season with a 8 and 2 record. They went into the playoffs as the #1 seed, and they were favored to win it all.
In the previous year, they had sadly been taken down by the Grimsley Whirlies; in the 4th round of the 2022 playoffs. But in order to reach the 4th round they would have to make it past their second round opponent, the Chambers Cougars.
After a back and forth battle, the game was ended on a crucial 4th and 13 stop by star linebacker Tj Davis. When asked what was going through his mind during the stop he replied, “It was just me and the receiver. I was going to end this game myself.”
This win helped propel the Warriors into the next round versus Charlotte Catholic. After this win coach Andy Capone spoke to the press and said, “I thought we played well offensively, but we missed to many assignments on defense.
Coming into the 2023-2024 basketball season, the Weddington Warriors finished with an amazing 25-1 regular season record. The first two playoffs games were nothing short of easy for the Warriors. Taking down East Meck and Butler respectfully.
Being the #3 seed in all of North Carolina they were excepted to-make quick work of the #11 Chamber Cougars. From the start of the game,the Warriors took a quick double digit lead in the second quarter. After a quick counter the warriors were only up by a single point going into halftime.
After a quick back and forth third quarter the Cougars, led by a 40 point performance by sophomore Tarris Bouie, the Cougars were sadly able to defeat the Warriors with a score of 78-68. After the game, star player Kj Younger responded with: “We just couldn’t get the job done; thank you to all of our seniors for a great year.”
