The Weddington Warriors stomped on the East Mecklenburg Eagles 67-52 on the 27th of February at Weddington High School. The leading scorers for Weddington were starting guard K.J. Younger with 29 points, Grant Hamilton with 26, and Mason Zepp with 5.
The players leading in assists for Weddington were Jack Ellyson with 2, Mason Zepp with 2, and K.J. Younger and Aidan Cook tied with 1.
Finally for the Weddington Warriors, their leading rebounders were Grant Hamilton with 5, Jaden Nnaji with 3, and K.J. Younger with 3 as well.
Head Coach Gary Ellington stated “We fought a very hard battle today, and we managed to pull away with a win. The first quarter started out a little rough but we were able to collect ourselves and we finished the game out strong. Now we just have to focus on the next opponent we face and beat them too.”
Starting guard K.J. Younger had this to say after the round 1 win: “It feels great to win. Now all of this momentum will help propel me to do even better in the 2nd round.”
While Weddington was the superior team that game, the East Mecklenberg Eagles fought valiantly the whole game. For the Eagles, their leading scorers were Ahmari Hicks with a solid 20 buckets, Bryson Heath with 11, and Jordan Buzzard with 9.
The Eagles players that lead in assists for the team were Bryson Heath with 3, Ahmani Hicks with 1, and Jordan Buzzard with 1 as well.
The top rebounders for East Meck. were Jordan Buzzard with 10, James McIver with 6, and Bryson Heath with 2.
While the East Mecklenburg Eagles were a very tough opponent to face, however, Weddington was able to finish the game strong in the end, and learn valuable lessons that’ll help Weddington to be more prepared for Butler High School this Friday night.
