Weddington High School women’s soccer hosted Charlotte Latin for Opening night on February 27. Both teams were ready to take off and blast through the field to the net. The rivalry was very intense since this was the first game of the season. The warriors fought very hard but Latin wanted it more.
Weddington Sophomore goalie Mckenna Sullivan Stated “For our first game together as a team I think we played very well especially against a hard fast paced team like Latin.”
The excitement was visible as the team took to the field to face off against their rivals, Charlotte Latin. The stands were filled with cheering fans, eager to see their team start the season off strong. The game got off to a fast-paced start, with both teams showing off their skills and determination. Weddington’s defense stood strong, stopping Latin’s attempts to score. The midfielders worked tirelessly to create scoring opportunities, but Latin’s defense held firm.
As the first half came to a close Latin struck first, scoring a goal . The Weddington girls fought hard to score, but Latin’s defense proved too tough to crack. Despite their best efforts, Weddington was unable to find the back of the net. As the final whistle blew, Latin emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 win. The Weddington girls held their heads high, knowing they had given it their all. They knew that there were still many games left in the season, and they were determined to bounce back from this loss.
