After a season filled with countless victories and an abundance of achievements, the Weddington High School cheerleaders take on one final hurrah- nationals. Nationals is an event that takes place in Orlando, FL, and marks the end of the school cheer season. This year, Nationals will take place from February 9th-11th. The 3-day event is what all major cheer teams work for their whole season, and the competition requires countless hours of dedication and discipline.
“These girls have spent so much time preparing and training. I am excited to see them perform, and I am honored to be their coach,” head coach Angie McDuffie stated.
The girls have had an incredible season so far. They have won two state championships, placing “Grand Champion” at both of these events. The team also received a score of a perfect “100” at the Marvin Ridge Classic, which is practically unheard of. The cheerleaders hope to continue this winning streak at nationals, and are ready to push themselves to new lengths in order to win.
Though for many on the team this is just another season, for the eight graduating seniors, this ending is more bittersweet than most. Many of these girls have been cheering since middle school, and are sad to see the season conclude.
“Every good thing must end for new things to happen,” senior Isabelle Silva stated.
The Warrior cheerleaders are ready to embark on their final journey for the 23-24 season, and hope to bring home a National championship home for Weddington High School!
