On February 11th, 2024, R&B star Beyonce released a new song – breaking into the Country genre. Her new song, Texas Hold Em takes a more country approach and has quickly become a fan favorite. However, many fans are outraged that Country radio stations won’t play it.
The beloved R&B, pop, and Hip-hop singer Beyonce has now written her first two country songs. The singer is currently the grammy record holder and has been releasing hit songs since the early 2000s. Although she has been known to explore different music genres, she’s never ventured into the world of country music prior to this release. Her latest song, Texas Hold ‘Em, has quickly gained a lot of attention and even caused an uproar in fans after the country radio station KYKC declined a fan’s request to play it.
KYKC responded back to the fan in an email which was then tweeted on X, formally known as twitter. In this tweet the fan had stated that the radio station said “We do not play Beyonce on KYKC as we are a country music station.” This caused the “BeyHive”, a name used for Beyonce fans, to respond in anger. After many requests and angry fans KYKC finally scheduled a time to play the song.
Weddington High student Mckenna Sullivan seems to agree with fans and took a quick liking to the song. “For her first country song I think it’s pretty good and catchy” she followed up by saying “I don’t get why they wouldn’t play it, I’m not a big country music fan but this is good since it’s her first country song.”
