On Wednesday, February 14th, the Kansas City Chiefs had a parade in Kansas City to celebrate their Superbowl win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, February 11th. However, things took a dark turn when shots broke out right outside Union Station.
There were 22 people who were shot, and half of them were under the age of 16. One person died, a radio DJ and mother named Lisa- Lopez Galvan. Taylor Swift donated $100,000 to her family’s Go- Fund Me. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, visited her children, who were some of the people shot, in the hospital later that week.
On Tuesday, February 20th, Missouri prosecutors said that two men have been charged with second- degree murder, and that they were the shooters. Both have been hospitalized with gunshot wounds after the shooting, and their names are Lyndell Mays and Dominic Miller. The men did not know each other and were in a group of people arguing when Mays suddenly pulled out his gun, which caused other people to do the same.
Jean Peters Baker, who is the Jackson City Prosecutor, promised to hold, “Every single shooter accountable for their actions that day. Every single one.”
