The Sadie Hawkins Dance, also known as the Reverse Homecoming Dance, is a spring dance at Weddington High School where the girls ask out the guys. It has been a tradition at Weddington High School for years, yet due to low attendance last year, this classic twist on tradition was almost put to an end.
Last years low attendance to the Reverse homecoming dance led to fear that it may be our last one ever, however this proved to be false. On January 18th, 2024, a survey was published on our Kraftson’s School-Wide Canvas page, questioning students on whether or not they were planning to attend the Reverse Homecoming Dance in this upcoming year. Luckily, enough students had replied that they were planning on making attendance, enough to have our school dance back on!
Junior at Weddington High School, Alexa McMillian, stated that she has attended the Reverse Homecoming Dance every year since she was a freshman. When asked how she felt about the low attendance this year she said, “I was kind of disheartened when I didn’t see all my friends there, but this year I’m getting the whole group together. I’m not letting anybody skip out on the fun!”
Ms. Waldrup is a major help in organizing the Reverse Homecoming Dance. Some reminders she’d like you to know are that tickets are on sale from February 1st through 18th, the dance is being held on Saturday, February 24th, and that guests will be allowed as long as you have a guest permission slip!
