With the new year comes new policies. During the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year at Weddington Highschool, a new policy has been adopted. This policy is designed to cut down on absences.
Absences have always been a huge problem at Weddington but this year that have seemed to crack down on it. In this policy they have new protocols that ensure people follow the rules.
WHS Attendance Counselor TC Yost explains that: “We have out these new protocols in place to help not only the student but the parents as well.” Along with her statement; WHS has also delivered a new handbook with expectations and examples of excused and unexcused absences.
Examples of these excused absences are school field trips, athletic events, and a verified parent note. Some examples of unexcused absences are: being late to classes, early dismissal passes, and being unable to provide a parent note.
If unfortunate enough to accumulate more then 7 unexcused absences in a semester, you will be responsible for recovery time which could be Saturday school or have to take classes over the summer. For most high school students though, this policy does not effect them. It mainly targets students who tend to skip school and miss classes; this policy serves as an reparation for their actions.
