Día de San Valentín
Want to celebrate Valentine’s Day or show a friend that you care? February 3rd through 7th, Spanish Honor Society will be selling roses during lunch, which is the perfect gift for all the special people in your life. Anyone can buy the flowers for $2 a rose during their designated lunch period, and they will be personally delivered to the person of your choice on Friday, February 14th during the school day; the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day!
These roses can be accompanied by special phrases in Spanish, such as “Te amo” (I love you), “tu eres mi favorito” (you’re my favorite), etc. This small gesture can make someone’s day, leaving dozens of students looking forward to the rose sale. “Getting a rose literally makes me so happy,” a junior claimed. “I’m happy we get to do it; it’s just such a cute thing to do.”
Not only does this fundraiser benefit the students of WHS, but buying roses during your lunch gives SHS the funding to support the less fortunate in Central America. The money raised selling roses will be designated to the Spanish Honor Society at Weddington High School, giving a chance for the club to partner with The Pulsera* Project in the future. The Pulsera Project finds small town artists in Central America and hires them to create handmade jewelry, which can be bought by Weddington’s SHS. “The Pulsera Project sends its proceeds back to those small artisans to give them an opportunity to support themselves on a living salary,” explains Señor Brown, the Spanish Honor Society advisor. Spanish Honor Society would also like to send out a message to those looking to improve their immersion into Spanish culture and advance their dedication to Spanish by offering Spring Inductions into Spanish Honors Society on February 7th. Stop by Señor Brown’s room (E210) before Thursday to pick up an application or consult an SHS officer — Dev Patel, Annamarie Michaels, Nicole Hasenkopf, Emma Gilbert, or Sarah Weber.
